Reading and Libraries

I departed walking on air, feeling certain that books really do matter to kids.

This past sunny warm Saturday (September 15), I presented as guest author at the Lanark Public Library. Not only did I have a couple of cool teens and a collection of interested/enthusiastic adults in the audience, but I also had this brilliant bunch of young readers who eagerly participated in a lively discussion about why reading is important; why we share and tell stories; and what a community would be like without a library. And this all took place at the same time as the popular Middleville Fair…talk about dedication to reading and libraries!

I left with a gorgeous bouquet of wildflowers tied with a hand-made ribbon—a gift from Olivia, a fan of my Maryn O’Brien Series—two hand-made loofah soaps, and a bundle of knitted dishcloths and hot pads from the library.

I departed walking on air, feeling certain that books really do matter to kids.
